Is your most powerful work the one you spent the most time on?

I often find myself revisiting the projects that moved me most, wondering what made them so lasting. One of my earliest black and white reportages, documenting the fishermen of Cape Verde, continues to influence me more than any other project.

But why does it still affect me so deeply?

The answer always comes back to one thing: I took the time.

Not just to document, but to be present. To live among the people for several days. To understand before interpreting. That depth of connection made the work authentic and powerful and this experience has shaped how I approach visual storytelling to this day.
