SUP expedition in Greenland – the story behind the image

When I share my work from my expeditions and adventures, I realize that it’s the story behind the image that captivates people the most:

• How was it to take photographs from a paddleboard in Greenland?
• What was the daily routine like?
• What challenges did we face in bad weather conditions?
• Did I encounter dangerous situations that made me feel scared?
• What safety equipment did we rely on?
• How did I recharge the batteries for my drone?
• What was the most important piece of equipment I used?
• What’s the best advice you would give for any expedition?
• …

Topics like camp life, food, cooking, fishing, paddleboard design, and supraglacial lakes also came up in conversation.

A world in white, a life of illusion!

Stand up paddling in a labyrinth of ice.

Greenland is an immense playground for those seeking adventure, but it’s also a place where you can find peace and space for reflection.

I’m always ready to paddle an extra mile for the perfect campsite!

With Simone, posing and joking before crossing the river streams on our way up to the ice sheet.

Standing at the edge of the Greenland ice sheet.

And here we are, after three years of waiting, finally standing along the shore of this vibrant blue meltwater lake – our lake – just magic!

The main goal of the expedition was to reach one of the vibrant blue meltwater lakes forming each year by mid-summer on the Greenland ice sheet.

Freezing a moment in time. The beauty of experiencing Greenland’s ice is something you will never forget.

I can’t get enough of this icy landscape – always in motion, never standing still, reshaping every day to the rhythm of nature.

On several occasions, we have to remind ourselves not to paddle too close to icebergs and to maintain a safe distance.

Framed from far or near distance, iceberg shapes are just captivating!

With 24 hours of daylight, surrounded by these sumptuous sceneries it was easy to get lost in time and space.

This is my favourite bird. The Arctic Tern’s yearly 40’000 km migration is just unique!

It’s worth to wake up early to experience the magic of the fog enveloping the surroundings.

The fog can create a sense of mystery and intrigue, as you never quite know what you might discover.

Fly away with me.

To illustrate and document the journey, I use both photography and a drone for aerial stills and video footage, providing a new and thrilling perspective of the landscape.

Simply let go and paddle with the flow.
